Calculation of Required Airflow for Tents with HPS Bulbs
Note that this varies with the ambient temperature in the growing area, or for example in winter you will need less airflow, while in summer you will need maximum airflow.
1. Tent with HPS 250W
-
60x60x160 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 200 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 300 m³/h
-
70x70x160 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 180 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 300 m³/h
-
80x80x180 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 150 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 280 m³/h
2. Calculation of the Required Airflow for Tents with a 400W HPS Bulb
-
100x100x180 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 300 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 450 m³/h
-
120x120x200 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 300 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 400 m³/h
3. Calculation of the Required Airflow for Tents with a 600W HPS Bulb
-
120x120x200 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 480 m³/h
- Maximum flow rate : 720 m³/h
-
150x150x200 cm
- Minimum flow rate : 400 m³/h
- Maximum airflow : 650 m³/h
4. Calculation of Required Airflow for Large Installations
-
4 HPS 400W or 600W in a 200x200x200 cm box
- 400W : 1200 to 1600 m³/h
- 600W : 1400 to 2000 m³/h or more depending on conditions
-
2 HPS 600W in a 240x120x200 cm box
- Minimum airflow : 900 m³/h
- Maximum airflow : 1300 m³/h
-
2 HPS 600W in a 300x150x200 cm box
- Minimum airflow : 800 m³/h
- Maximum airflow : 1200 m³/h
Why These Airflows?
The minimum airflow ensures sufficient air exchange to maintain temperature and humidity at optimal levels. In case of excessive heat (for example, during heat waves or in poorly ventilated spaces), a higher airflow is needed to quickly remove excess heat and protect the plants.
5. Importance of Air Intake
Air intake must be adjusted to match the airflow required by the extractor. Generally, it is recommended to have a slightly lower intake to maintain a slight negative pressure in the tent, which helps contain odors and improve the efficiency of carbon filters.
6. Use of Carbon Filters
Carbon filters must be sized to match the airflow of the extractor. For example, if you use a 600 m³/h extractor, it is better to use an extractor with the same or higher airflow to maximize odor filtration. Make sure the carbon filter can handle this airflow to avoid filter saturation and maintain effective air purification.
7. Indoor Fans and Placement
Oscillating fans should be placed to ensure uniform air circulation around the plants, avoiding pockets of heat and humidity. Floor fans can also be used to promote evaporation of soil moisture and prevent mold formation.
